Make Mini Resurrection Gardens For Easter

Easter is approaching and it’s a perfect time to make mini resurrection gardens.  I love tailoring our home school studies and every day activities with the current season and holiday.  I saw mini resurrection gardens popping up on blogs here and there a few years ago, and I knew I wanted to make these with my boys.

Creating these simple mini resurrection gardens is a quick 30 minute project that will have lasting impact, and memories beyond all the Easter bunny festivities.

There is nothing quite like getting our hands dirty and working with some soil and natural elements to bring us back to focusing on the Creator of all good things. My boys had a blast working on this project and I am sure we will be making these again. Once the grass sprouts up in our mini gardens and we approach Good Friday it’s going to be so fun to roll the stone across the tomb opening, and read from Matthew in the Bible.

Maybe you would like to try one of these gardens with your kids?  This sweet mini garden is a great visual and tactile way to keep the holy reminder of Easter in your home.  Here is what you need to make your own.

Mini Resurrection Gardens Supply List

  • Shallow potting dish
  • Small 4 inch terracotta pot
  • One large rock from your yard for the tombstone
  • Potting soil
  • 6 small stick pieces from your yard for crosses
  • Grass seed
  • Hot glue or twine for making crosses
  • Moss and small rocks, or whatever you want to find to decorate your mini garden

How to Make Mini Resurrection Gardens

  • Lay the small terra cotta pot on its side to the back of your larger potting dish (as you see in the before pic above)
  • Mound up the potting soil to make a hill above the tomb. Have the kids move and pat the dirt all around.
  • Add moss and rocks where you like. (my boys wanted to have some moss in the tomb for Jesus to lay on… you gotta love it!)
